Pastor Bob Brown and his wife Susan have served at Chicago First Church of the Nazarene (C1) in a variety of capacities since 1985. Bob is now the Connections Pastor for Education at C1. He has authored the weekly Background Notes since 2007. He also leads the Faith Questions class, is a Life Groups Leader, and contributes to worship planning with an emphasis on liturgy. Bob is an ordained Nazarene elder.
Pastor Bob graduated from Moody Bible Institute in 1972 in the pastoral studies major. He completed his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and History from the University of Akron in 1975 and his graduate degree in Old Testament at Gordon-Cornwell Theological Seminary in 1977.
Prior to his ministry at C1, he served as senior pastor of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church in Parma, Ohio. After seminary graduation, he became senior pastor at Fellowship Chapel of the Christian and Missionary Alliance in Bolingbrook, Illinois, where he was ordained in 1979. He also served for over 20 years as adjunct professor in Philosophy and Ethics at Joliet Junior College, retiring in 2007. Bob also teaches in the spring and fall for the S.A.L.T. program at Trinity Christian College.
His ministries at C1 have included: Pastor of Adult Education; member of the church board; ABF leader; Adult Ministries Director; ABF director; Pastor of Sunday Evening Worship (2010-2012).
Bob and Susan have three children, Marcus, Nathan and Julie, and eight grandchildren. In addition to his pastoral ministries, Bob has provided IT services to area businesses since 1985. He is a member of the Society of Biblical Literature.
